I am participating in the group exhibition of resident artists at Magdalen Road Studios, with my studio also open for viewing and buying pots. Also participating in an exhibition entitled "Ponderings over tea" at Gallery 1 + 5 in Jericho during Oxford Artweeks.
Jynsym Ong is a studio potter born in London but currently based in Oxford, working out of Magdalen Road Studios. Trained at Clay College, Stoke-On-Trent, she was subsequently awarded a Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Scholarship to go to Japan and there undertook an apprenticeship at Mitoh Gama (Kiln) in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture for two years.
Jynsym is interested in patterns and surfaces found in nature. She attempts to replicate some of these ineffable qualities by using found materials such as wood ash, rocks and clays. She is very interested in wood-firing, a particularly unpredictable process in which pots are glazed by the ashes of the wood fed into the kiln resulting in surfaces with nuance and wonderful variety. Jynsym regularly fires with the Oxford Anagama Project in Wytham Woods.
